Hey Diggers!
I’m Shawn, and I used to be a student here like you.
I’ve had an awesome career, that’s taken me around the world, to some of the biggest companies, huge projects, and even the Ivy League.
Today, I’m here to help young engineering and science professionals make the most of their early careers… and their life.

Wednesday – Career Workshop + Resume Lab
Wednesday is a deeper dive into the career search itself. I’ll share a bit of my own story—what it was like to be a Montana Tech student trying to land my first role, what worked, what didn’t, and the lessons I learned along the way. Then we’ll roll up our sleeves and work through real resume examples. You’ll get practical feedback on your own résumé and see how small changes can make a big difference. We’ll also talk about how to network at a career fair and beyond, so you walk in with a plan.

Thursday – Career Fair Day
Thursday is the big event: the Career Fair. I’ll be stationed in the HPER Lobby all day, available for quick conversations as students pass through. Think of it as a pit stop—whether you need a fast resume check, a confidence boost, or a last-minute networking tip before you meet employers. I won’t be able to spend long with each student, but I’ll make sure you leave with something useful you can put into action right away.
You have been working hard on getting your degree.
Now, you are trying to land a job.
Now what?
The hidden rules of hiring. The unspoken expectations behind every interview. The networks that open doors before the job is even posted.
Most students send out hundreds of applications and hear nothing back—burning time, energy, and confidence in the process.
You don’t have to. Here’s how to stand out and land the role you’ve been working toward.
Let’s skip the trial and error. This is your shortcut.
IT WASN’T EASY
Fresh out of school, I landed a prestigious role at ExxonMobil in their Major Projects Division but felt completely lost. The onboarding wasn’t straightforward, leaving me unsure of my role, how and where I fit into the organization, and how to excel. I struggled with the basics—from where to live, how to socialize, to managing everyday tasks. It took years to gain confidence in my role and find my path.
I want to provide you with a kick-start and provide insights and reflections to help start moving ahead right away.
Level Up This Week
You’ve been working hard on your degree—now it’s time to turn it into a career.
Landing that first job isn’t just about grades. It’s about knowing how to stand out: the right resume, a sharp LinkedIn profile, and the confidence to walk into the career fair ready to connect.
That’s what this week is all about. I’ll be on campus September 23–25 to help you with:
Resume reviews – make sure your skills get noticed
LinkedIn setup + profile pics – look professional online
Networking plan – who to talk to and what to say
Career fair prep – strategy before you walk in
Interview prep – practice for the real thing
1:1 Q&A – grab me anytime on campus
No guesswork. Just clear steps to help you start strong.
